Pouillly-Fuissé Clos Varambon

The Pouilly-Fuissé cuvée Clos Varambon is made from all the vines within our Clos which were planted after 1945: this includes various plots with different age and rootstock, adding up to a total surface of 4,5 hectares which include only one hectare of "young" vines aged less than 20 years.

The vinification is made in recent 30-hectoliter oak vats, in 400-liter and 228-liter barrels without new oak. This cuvée is bottled after 12 to 18 months maturing, usually with a light filtration consisting only in a smooth Kieselguhr method. We generally prefer not to fine our wines, as their maturing on lees allows to reach a sufficient stability and because we believe that this process can diminish their aromatic potential.

The Clos Varambon is a wine conceived to be appreciated from its early age: this is why we vinify it mainly in large volume containers and without new oak, in order have all the advantages of oak while keeping a more immediate and direct expression of the fruit. Depending on vintages, this cuvée can easily age from 6 to 10 years: as time goes by, the aromatic palette will evolve from white flowers and fresh fruits to an evocation of dry fruits, beeswax and spices.
